Whether we’re hanging out in Market Square Park, catching shows at Miller Outdoor Theatre or browsing the Urban Harvest Farmers Market, there’s nothing like summertime for our seniors in Houston, TX. In North Houston, residents of Proveer at Northgate usually enjoy getting out for excursions, but we’re enjoying this summer without leaving at all.
What is memory care?
Folks experiencing Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia benefit from structure and engaging activities. Due to the overwhelming symptoms associated with dementia, those living with it can experience depression and feel withdrawn. Thanks to the meaningful programming with Proveer at Northgate, our residents receive the assistance they need and find purpose.
Why choose Proveer at Northgate?
Every day is different with Proveer at Northgate. Our structure relies on the Cherish philosophy:
Personalized
- We strive to make the community feel like home. Getting to know the personalities of the residents allows us to provide individualized services and activities.
Engaging
- From creating new experiences to reintroducing old ones, residents find purpose in their lives.
Meaningful
- We don’t just do activities for the sake of doing them. There is a purpose behind what we do, and we do our best to tailor every activity to each resident’s interests.
Innovative
- The Alzheimer’s Association says, “The first survivor of Alzheimer’s is out there.” By using the latest data from trusted sources, we adapt to bring unprecedented methods of treatment.
What activities are helpful for memory care?
The 2020 Olympics finally happened in 2021, and Proveer at Northgate residents were here qualifying for the discus toss. Keeping up with current events and finding ways to incorporate them into our activities is a great way to keep residents connected to the world.
Our Cherish foundations also create opportunities for activities:
Stay moving | Senior-friendly, Olympic-style training and our daily Ageless Strength classes satisfy the body and the mind. |
Pursue Knowledge | Word games, trivia and brain teasers are great for mental health. Digging in the garden and greenhouse teaches us valuable life lessons as well. |
Explore Art | From recreating the world around us to finding just the right color, creating inspires focus. |
Give Back | Residents and associates participate in making our community better. From creating thank you cards to raising Alzheimer’s awareness, we aim to uplift. |
Build Relationships | We stay connected to create meaningful friendships over drinks, with furry friends, and with the youngsters. |
Be Enriched | Being patriotic, celebrating Black History Month, or just having fun boosts moods and minds. |
Why is activity important for people with memory loss?
The Mayo Clinic recommends physical activity to help prevent memory loss and points out how leisurely pursuits can benefit older adults. Experts from Harvard Medical School conclude that exercise stimulates growth in the parts of the brain that control thinking and memory.
The creative process evokes memories and stirs emotions unlike any other pursuit. Art helps express feelings that we sometimes can’t find the words to say. The challenges of living with Alzheimer’s and dementia can be faced through adaptation. With the commitment of Proveer at Northgate, your loved one’s life can have meaning and purpose.
How can my loved one have this much fun?
If your loved one is living with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, we encourage you to join our monthly support group. Caretaking is not a journey to go through alone. Join us every second Thursday of the month for inspiring talks and opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.
