The world came to a halt in 2020. Life as we knew it seemingly changed overnight. The negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic will linger with us for quite some time, however, there is much hope for a return to normalcy. We with Proveer at Northgate aim to do our part.
Proveer at Northgate introduces high-quality senior living to Houston, TX. To continue bringing these fine services to our community, we aim to do all we can to stay protected.
The mandatory vaccinations for our employees protect the seniors who rely on our care and the families we serve.
How has COVID-19 in senior living changed since the vaccine?
As a nation, we’ve gone from 306,000 daily new cases at the beginning of the year to just over 10,000 at the end of May. We are finally seeing the success of following COVID-19 protocols and getting vaccinated.

Residents | 34,227 | 634 |
Associates | 29,122 | 929 |
*The CDC tends to include all types of senior living under the term “nursing homes.” A senior living community operates differently than a nursing home.
In Texas, rates for associates or employees have declined to less than 50 cases per week and are almost eliminated for residents. Proveer at Northgate in Houston has had amazing success with our vaccination program and encourages everyone who has yet to participate in the vaccine process to do so.
It’s very encouraging that over 41 million Americans over the age of 65 have completed the vaccination process – including 1.4 million residents of long-term care facilities and over a million staff.
How did Proveer at Northgate pass the time through the pandemic?
Under our new management team, we’re excited to add the signature Cherish program as another dimension of our memory care neighborhood. Keeping our residents who are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia active, engaged, and enriched is at the core of how we care for them.

How are Proveer at Northgate associates helping Houston memory care residents?
We extend a gigantic thank you to our associates, who showed up every day while practicing the ever-changing list of protocols and continuing to serve the needs of each resident. It has been an especially tough and lonely year for seniors, but residents with Proveer at Northgate were fortunate to enjoy socialization (from a distance), good food, and proper care.
In April of 2021, we followed the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and decided to mandate vaccinations for our associates. It was not a decision that was made lightly. We decided it was best to take the lead in doing the right thing and keeping our seniors protected.
We know that there are folks who have underlying causes or religious beliefs that prevent them from the vaccination process, and we respectfully acknowledge and do not discriminate against those beliefs. Seeking the guidance of the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, we discovered a mandate of this nature can qualify as a condition of employment and is no different than requiring a standard flu shot or tuberculosis test. We hope all join us in the fight against COVID-19.
